Yet another so called Registry Cleaner than actually takes over your system and is nearly impossible to remove! They have an image of a guy with his head in his hands on their homepage, presumably after installing Reg Sweep.

2-spyware.com says:

Upon scaring the user, RegSweep provides him with a supposed answer – the “licensed version” of the program. This is, of course, not the case, as RegSweep is just another scam designed to rip you off and get away with it. DO NOT trust this parasite: remove RegSweep ASAP if you’ve been infected.

and it’s a simliar story on PCThreat.com

RegSweep, once embedded within a computer system will produce and display erroneous system warning alerts, phony scan reports, and false error messages about a potential threat of “infection” on the system. All of the above is aimed at influencing the user in such a way that they are coerced into purchasing the “full” version of RegSweep software.

It gets worse..

Just discovered something I thought I’d heads’ up everyone: I recently purchased/installed RegSweep registry cleaner for my home office/3 computers for $49.95 thinking that after purchase I could use the software at my discrection. I have found out the hard way via my bank account that they charge for EACH registry scan albeit that you have purchased the software. Using this software will cause you overdrafts – DO NOT PURCHASE OR USE ANY FURTHER!
I put it to the test about 10 minutes ago and got my answer … buyer beware.

It’s not looking good. $49.95 per scan is going to get expensive.
